چکیده

Aim To determine the clinical correlates of increased red blood cell distribution width (RDW), its potential mechanistic association with multiple circulating biomarkers, and prognostic value in patients type 2 diabetes (T2D) who had a recent acute coronary syndrome. Methods We used time-updated Cox models applied to enrolled Examination Cardiovascular Outcomes Alogliptin versus Standard Care (EXAMINE) trial. Results A total 5380 were included, median age was 61 years 32% women. Patients higher RDW older, more frequently women, longer duration co-morbidities. An than 16.1% (both baseline time-updated) independently associated study primary composite outcome non-fatal myocardial infarction, stroke or cardiovascular death (time-updated adjusted HR = 1.36, 95% CI 1.16–1.61, p < .001), all-cause 2.01, 1.60–2.53, as well mortality from non-cardiovascular causes 2.67, 1.72–4.15, .001). weak-to-moderate correlation haemoglobin markers that reflected inflammation, apoptosis, fibrosis congestion. did not alter values. Conclusions is marker disease severity multitude poor outcomes, including both death. correlated modestly inflammatory, pro-apoptotic, pro-fibrotic congestion markers, levels affected by alogliptin during course

Red cell distribution width is associated with acute myocardial infarction in young patients.

BACKGROUND There are few studies about predictors of ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) in young patients. High red cell distribution width (RDW) levels were associated with adverse outcomes in patients with STEMI. We aimed to investigate the relationship between RDW and STEMI in young patients. METHODS This study included 370 patients who presented to our hospital with acute myocardi...

Association between Red Cell Distribution Width and Mortality in Pediatric Patients Admitted to Intensive Care Units

Background: Red cell distribution width (RDW) is a routine laboratory measure that could be used as a predictor of mortality in critically ill patients. Identification of patients at risk for mortality early in the course of PICU admission is an important step in improving the outcome. We aimed to assess the use of RDW as an early biomarker for outcome in pediatric critical illnesses. Methods:...

Prognostic Validity of Red Cell Distribution Width in Neonatal Sepsis

Background Neonatal sepsis is one of the most critical illness in neonates that is responsible for a great proportion of morbidity and mortality in neonates so early diagnosis and identification of high risk cases is a challenging aim of our study. The purpose of this study was to investigate the prognostic value of red cell distribution width (RDW), in neonatal sepsis at the time of admission ...

Relationship between the red blood cell distribution width and risk of acute myocardial infarction.

AIMS Recently, a number of studies have shown an increased red blood cell distribution width (RDW) to be a strong and independent predictor of the prognosis of coronary artery disease. The aim of this study was to investigate the underlying mechanisms responsible for the relationship between the RDW and a poor prognosis of coronary artery disease. METHODS Four hundred and twenty-four patients...
